Get to know one of our Travel Insurance Master affiliates, Shannon of Fit Life and Travel. Based out of the Central Gulf Coast of Florida, Shannon has been a travel blogger for three years and truly Inspires Adventure Everyday!
Shannon, when did you start your blog?
I started my blog about three years ago. In fact, February marks our third year anniversary.
Walk me through how or why you started?
I started my blog as a result of a life changing event in 2017. At that moment in time, my hubby/travel pal decided to take a long road trip to Utah to see Arches National Park. We also made the decision on a few life's goals, which is to see every national park in the U.S. and live our life as full as possible. I then thought about sharing these aspirations with other people and I wanted to inspire folks to maximize their lives as well. Hence, I created FitLifeandTravel.com; “Inspire Adventure Everyday” is our motto.
Do you feature a specific type of travel or area?
We do feature a specific type of travel, but usually share all of our trips. The main types of travel we feature are National Parks and ‘Adventure’ themed experiences. This includes hiking adventures, seeing new places, and exploring nature environments.
What is your favorite part about being a blogger?
One of my favorite things about being a blogger is sharing the ‘experience’. The experience of exploring a new place that someone across the world may not have seen or may have a desire to see. I love to inspire and motivate people through my own stories of adventure and goal accomplishments. One example is my hike up Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. This is not an easy hike, but the rewards are tremendous! (You can see this entire trail and climb on my Youtube Channel).
What is your favorite or dream destination?
The dream destination for me is Hawaii! This place has it all in terms of laid back way of life, outdoor adventures galore and landscape beauty that is endless!
What is your favorite travel tip?
One of the most valuable tips I can give is always be prepared and ready for changes while traveling. For example, I always carry various foods with me. Reason number one, I have food if we have a layover or arrive to a destination very late. And two, I suffer from auto immune disorders, so my diet is very restrictive and I am one of those travelers who carries specific food with them at all times.
What other suggestions do you have for travelers?
The other suggestions I might offer to other travelers are pack light, bring only what you need; always check the weather conditions of your destination. Another tip is to do your best to stay well! I have small hand sanitizers and wipes with me all times. Drink plenty of water while flying. If you are traveling to do a hiking trip; be sure to bring a small plastic bag to put small trash items in so you can leave your destination as you found it.
What suggestions do you have for bloggers or what has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome with your blog?
The biggest obstacle I encounter is visibility. It’s a challenge promoting your blog to get more eyes on it with keeping cost minimal. Choosing the correct keywords, and search engine optimization can be challenging as well. I usually try to update and post something every day to my blog to keep it active. I will do a search in Google and look for what other people are using for keywords and I try to include them in my tags and other areas within my posts.
How can our readers follow your travels?
I invite all of your readers and guests to come along with me on this journey of life! You will find inspiring photos and videos of outdoor adventures including mountains, oceans, beaches, and more! You will also enjoy an occasional fitness or nutritional tip with a few recipes too! I am also a musician and love to paint with watercolor so you can also see some of my works of beauty and nature on my website. So, if you are looking for inspiration and beautiful wanderings, please follow me on my social media channels of which I add links to my blog and my Youtube channel frequently. Anything else you would like to share?
I want to send a thank you to Travel Insurance Master for featuring me. I am also a Navy veteran and have traveled around the world at a very young age. I am also thankful for the opportunity I’ve had to explore more than 25 or so national parks, and working on seeing them all. My goal is to inspire adventure everyday!
