As a start-up based in Boston, we love talking travel in and around New England! Planning a trip to our city and beyond this spring or summer? Check out some of our favorite travel tips and tricks.

BOSTON

Boston, MA is an excellent getaway no matter what time of year you decide to visit! There’s no shortage of entertainment, history, or championships here. Whether you’re looking to catch a game at Fenway Park, indulge in a North End cannoli, or explore noteworthy landmarks like the Boston Public Garden, your trip to Boston is sure to be a memorable one. The Freedom Trail starting at America’s Oldest Public Park, Boston Common, will take you on a 2.5-mile journey in the footsteps of the American Revolution and more legendary historic landmarks. Afterwards, if you’re looking for a place to rest your feet with a good book, add Boston Public Library to your list. You can turn the page in one of 23 million books, or just admire the stunning architecture at the third largest public library in the country. If you’re traveling 100 miles or more from home to visit Boston, whether flying into Logan Airport or driving, be sure to protect your trip with a travel insurance plan. Taking part in the Boston Marathon? Travel insurance is important as a marathoner too! Be sure to purchase adventure travel insurance like the Adventure Sports Bundle upgrade, which removes the exclusion for adventure and extreme activities. You can easily filter by this benefit and many more to fit your travel needs on TravelInsuranceMaster.com.

CAPE COD

If you decide to explore outside the city, Cape Cod should be at the top of your list. Cape Cod is about 70 miles from Boston and is a beautiful, quintessential New England destination. You can find flights from Logan Airport, cruises out of Boston, take a bus, or a car. Known for its beaches, the tidal flats of Cape Cod Bay are the largest flats in North America. These beaches are the perfect way to respectfully explore and learn more about the ocean ecosystem, and are popular with families. Nantucket Sound is also a popular choice for travelers and allows you to enjoy calmer water than the Outer Cape beaches. You can catch a ferry to Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard for a day trip or longer stay too! If you’re looking for another way to explore the Cape, check out the Cape Cod Rail Trail. You can rent a bike to ride the 25.5-mile-long paved trail to take in the scenery from Mid to Outer Cape. Nickerson State Park connects to the Rail Trail with its own 8-mile bike path, and is a campground destination from late spring to early fall. With more than 2,000 acres, more than 400 campsites, stunning forests, and fresh water ponds, you are sure to enjoy your Cape getaway here. Travel insurance can protect trips like these too with benefits that may reimburse non-refundable trip expenses like a campground reservation or RV rental if you have to cancel of shorten your trip due to a covered reason.

NEWPORT

Another destination that you may want to add onto your Boston trip is Newport, Rhode Island. This coastal community is known for its extensive history and Gilded Age Mansions. The famous Cliff Walk is a great free way to explore the shoreline’s spectacular views and take in the Newport Mansions along the 3.5-mile route. The grand homes and their grounds including the Breakers, Rosecliff, and more, are open for tours and will take you back in time to turn of the century America. With great restaurants and shopping too, Newport is a worthwhile stop on your New England journey. Don’t forget to try New England favorites like chowder or lobster rolls! As you plan your trip, be sure to protect your investment with single trip travel insurance from Travel Insurance Master. The unexpected can always happen, and with the right insurance, you’ll find peace of mind knowing your trip is well protected.

NOW WHAT?

Wondering what to do when you have travel insurance and something goes wrong?

If something serious happens, contact the provider’s emergency assistance number. You can also contact Travel Insurance Master or the actual vendor for advice. A great rule of thumb to follow is, if anything happens on your trip that will cost you money, either already paid when the trip was purchased, or will have to be paid as a result of what happened, be prepared for a claim and collect all the receipts.

For sickness or accidents – collect and keep medical bills and all paperwork associated with the incident.

For lost or delayed luggage – collect and keep claim forms, delivery receipt, and purchased goods receipts.

For travel delay, missed connection, or trip interruption – collect and keep records of hotel stay, meals, transportation, and any other incidentals. Pay attention to the coverage limits according to your policy.

Remember if anything happens resulting in an additional expense, even if you are not sure whether or not it will be covered by travel insurance, keep the receipts just in case. Travel insurance is an important part of any trip and you’ll be glad you purchased it if something arises. Let TravelInsuranceMaster.com recommend the best plan for you from our numerous trusted providers so you can get back to planning and ultimately making travel memories!

Saw this just in time! We are heading to Boston next week. We are absolutely adding the freedom trail and the public library to our trip. Thanks for the advice!
I did a team Ragnar Run from Hull, MA around to Provincetown on the cape. (Not quite the Boston marathon...) I have to say, travel insurance is def a must for adventures like that! But also, the most overrated attraction in the area: Plymouth Rock.
Traveled a lot around the US, but never made it to New England. Would love to do these New England travel tips when we finally get to visit. Cape Cod and Boston are on top of the list.
Travelled around the US for 3 summers but I never made it to Boston. I have many friends from the city, so Boston will definitely be on my list when I can finally visit them.
