Tiana, when did you start your blog?
I started Where Tiana Travels back in 2019, when I first moved abroad.
Walk me through how or why you started?
I started my blog to document my travels through Europe and my experience living in a foreign country. I’m from a fairly small town and a lot of my high school friends haven’t traveled much, so the blog was a good way for them to keep up with me and all the places I’m visiting.
Do you feature a specific type of travel or area?
I write mostly about solo female travel, budget travel and life as an expat.
What is your favorite part about being a blogger?
My favorite part about being a blogger is inspiring people with my travel stories and motivating them to go to new places and have exciting new experiences! It’s always a nice feeling to hear that someone was inspired by something you wrote or an experience you shared.
What is your favorite or dream destination?
My favorite destination that I’ve traveled to so far has to be Thailand. The food is incredible, the beaches are amazing and the people are some of the nicest I’ve met anywhere. Sydney, Australia and Bali, Indonesia are definitely two of my dream destinations!
What is your favorite travel tip?
My favorite travel tip is to break out of your comfort zone! Don't be afraid to talk to people, even if you don't share a common language. Chances are, you'll find that most people are interested in hearing your story and are more than happy to exchange with you. These experiences are what make travel so special and unique.
What other suggestions do you have for travelers?
Everyone should travel solo at least once in their life if they get the opportunity! Solo travel allows you to completely immerse yourself in the culture and the environment of your chosen destination, forces you to have to rely on your own resources and abilities, and teaches you a lot about yourself.
What suggestions do you have for bloggers or what has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome with your blog?
The biggest obstacle I had to overcome was wanting to instantly become a successful blogger and have my blog read by millions. That’s not going to happen overnight, or even within the first few months of starting your blog. It takes time, consistency, effort, and a lot of learning. I also had to get over my perfectionism and just start writing and putting my thoughts out there.
