Alisha, walk me through why you started blogging?
I have worked as a full-time Registered Nurse for the last ten years. Traveling has always been an outlet and a passion of mine. Finding the time to travel with a full-time job that you cannot work remotely from can be difficult, and I thought many other people could feel the same way. I started my blog as a platform to share my itineraries and tips on how to travel more with a full-time career.
Do you feature a specific type of travel or area?
On TTWT, you will find realistic and practical itineraries for international destinations and weekend trips in the US.
I am also your go-to blog for California. I write a lot about California travel, including popular destinations like Napa Valley, but also on many local hidden gems. I travel often with my two goofy Golden Retrievers Cash and Carter. You will find dog-friendly travel tips and itineraries as well.
What is your favorite part about being a blogger?
My favorite part about being a travel blogger is having the opportunity to share incredible destinations with my readers. On a personal level, my favorite part has been learning so many new and diverse skills. My current job as an RN challenges me, but as a blogger, I have opened up to a whole new creative side of myself that I didn’t know existed.
What is your favorite destination?
My favorite destination that I have traveled to was South Africa. The trip was full of adventure and unique things to do. I went white shark cage diving, sandboarded down massive dunes, and had a 3-day incredible safari tour at Kruger National Park. The culture, the food, the people, and the one of kind experiences are some of the many reasons why I would revisit South Africa in a heartbeat.
What is your favorite travel tip?
Traveling with credit card points can save you thousands! This last year I traveled first class to Italy and France, all on points. We also booked a free flight to Hawaii for my husband with the Southwest companion pass. Choosing the right credit cards and saving your points for booking flights or accommodations is a great way to save money when traveling.
What other suggestions do you have for travelers?
You don’t have to quit your day job to live an adventure-filled life of travel! There are so many different ways to incorporate more travel into your life without spending too much money or using all of your PTO.
What suggestions do you have for bloggers or what has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome with your blog?
As someone who does not work in tech or marketing, blogging was a whole new world to me. I think the biggest obstacle as a blogger is finding the right direction for your blog. There are so many people with different advice on how to grow a successful blog. I felt like I was being pulled in a million different directions, which can quickly lead to burnout.
My best advice to bloggers is to invest in your blog and join a travel blogging course. After I did that, I finally was able to see real results. Also, I had a mentor and community that I trusted to turn to when I had questions or concerns with my blog.
How can our readers follow your travels?
