Angelica and Christian, what is your travel business, Terra Sur Travels?

Where are you located?
In Quito, the capital of Ecuador.
When did you get started in the industry?
Terra Sur Travels started during the pandemic, in September 2020.
Walk me through how or why you started in the industry?
Angelica and I met in Quito in 2018. She already worked in tourism for around 10 years, in both her home country Venezuela, as well as in Ecuador. I myself was a world traveler and have been traveling throughout Latin America for 20 years and in total through 75 countries.
We quickly decided to live and work together, so I quit my job back home in Germany and moved to Ecuador in December 2019, right before the pandemic. After the first harsh lockdown we decided to dedicate our entire time in building up Terra Sur Travels, making it a travel agency that will change the face of tourism in South America. And making a difference for the local communities, our providers, employees and ourselves, by establishing a more stable and sustainable approach. Ever since then we have been working hard on building up everything, from website to social media, building a community, and of course creating tailor-made itineraries and managing all trips for our travelers.
Do you specialize in a specific type of travel or destination?
Basically we try to point our travelers in directions that even their best pre-holiday research hasn’t pointed them to. Places that are rarely mentioned in guide books, but deserve to be experienced!
What is your favorite part about your job?
Everything! From the first call with a prospect, creating a unique and personalized itinerary, and staying by their side before, during and after the trip.
What is your favorite or dream destination?
Angelica: Canaima, the region with the tabletop mountains in Venezuela (favorite), Antarctica (dream)
Christian: Being high up in the Andes mountains (favorite), Antarctica (dream)
What is your favorite travel tip?
Angelica: Trust your gut feeling!
Christian: Leave your comfort zone. Nothing lets you grow more as a person. And use sunscreen!
What other suggestions do you have for travelers?
- Travel solo at least once.
- Less destinations, stay longer.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
