Jennifer, when did you start your blog?
I started my blog in 2017 as a Peace Corps blog currently trying to expand it into a travel, food, and lifestyle blog.
Walk me through how or why you started?
I started my blog to highlight my unique experience living in Madagascar as a Peace Corps Volunteer. At the beginning of my service, I was updating my blog regularly but because of my busy schedule teaching over 150 students and only having wifi sporadically I was not able to continue updating it during my service. I relied mostly on Facebook to keep my family and friends updated on what was going on.
Do you feature a specific type of travel or area?
At the moment I am mostly featuring Madagascar because that is my most recent destination (lived there for 2.5 years) but I do plan to include posts to some of the other incredible countries I have traveled to.
What is your favorite part about being a blogger?
My favorite part about being a blogger is seeing some of my friends' and families’ responses to my travel experiences. I also enjoy reading some of my blog posts and reliving some of my favorite travel experiences.
What is your favorite or dream destination?
My dream destination is to travel to Switzerland, Japan, Ethiopia and pretty much all of Africa.
What is your favorite travel tip?
Do not rely on your phone solely for hotel confirmations or any bookings. Have a print out ready just in case your phone runs out of battery and you need to quickly show your ticket. P.S. Also pack an extra battery to charge your phone.
What other suggestions do you have for travelers?
If your dream is to be a travel blogger then do it. Do not give up and continue to experiment and collaborate with others.
What suggestions do you have for bloggers or what has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome with your blog?
I am still a fairly new blogger and still learning the ropes as far as learning what it takes to grow your blog into a successful and profitable one. What has been helpful in this process is following well established and successful travel bloggers and taking notes on what’s working for them.
