Planning your vacation for the new year? Already have travel plans booked for 2023? Either way, you’ll want to protect your travel investment with the best insurance plan for your specific trip! Here’s when to purchase a plan, and how to find your customized recommendation. That way you’ll quickly get back to the fun part – planning and ultimately enjoying your next trip.

In case of the unexpected, travel insurance is always a smart purchase! It’s also never too early to purchase a plan. Once you have put down your initial trip deposit, even if you haven’t paid in full yet, visit TravelInsuranceMaster.com. You’ll be able to easily request a quote in just a few simple steps, inputting your trip and traveler details. You can also select the appropriate option whether you have paid for your trip in full or simply put down the deposit. This even holds true if you have only paid a small deposit upfront and you are paying the rest of the fees later on. Try to accurately calculate and enter your total trip cost however if anything changes and you need to update your trip cost, you should be able to contact your policy provider to assist. Do so within the same early purchase period as specified in your plan to ensure you keep your early purchase benefits.

There are many reasons to purchase travel insurance early on in your planning process. Some of the most popular benefits amongst travelers are time-sensitive so buying early can be rewarding. Almost all comprehensive plans, those with Trip Cancellation, will offer these kinds of benefits. You will want to purchase anywhere from 1 – 21 days of your initial trip deposit for the most options, depending on your specific provider. The benefit of using a site like TravelInsuranceMaster.com is that you can easily shop and compare multiple providers, plans, and benefits all in one place.

CANCEL FOR ANY REASON

Since the pandemic, one of the most popular time sensitive benefits is Cancel for Any Reason or CFAR. CFAR allows you to do just that, cancel for any reason whatsoever usually up to 2 days prior to departure for a reimbursement of up to 75% of your prepaid, non-refundable expenses depending on your specific plan. Remember CFAR doesn’t replace your regular Trip Cancellation benefit, which would cover you 100% for covered reasons, most commonly when you, your travel companion, or business partner gets sick.

PRE-EXISTING MEDICAL CONDITIONS WAIVER

Another reason to purchase travel insurance early is the pre-existing medical conditions waiver. If you or someone you are purchasing travel insurance for has a pre-existing health condition, seriously consider the likelihood of it flaring up or reoccurring before or during your trip. Could it cancel or interrupt your travels? Without the pre-existing medical conditions waiver, normally a medical condition present prior to your travel insurance policy’s effective date would not be covered.

Most plans have a look back period, meaning they will look back at your medical history, anywhere from 2 to 18 months, to check if your condition appeared or was treated during that time. TravelInsuranceMaster.com allows you to easily request a quote, shop Comprehensive plans, and filter by the benefits most important to you like the pre-existing medical conditions waiver.

Travel Insurance Master Tip: If you didn’t buy your travel insurance policy early enough to take advantage of the pre-existing medical conditions waiver, look for a plan with a look-back period shorter than the last time you registered your medical condition with your doctor.

EVEN MORE REASONS TO BUY EARLY

Although CFAR and the pre-existing medical conditions waiver are usually the two most popular time sensitive benefits, you may find a few more offered by your plan provider like Interruption for Any Reason or IFAR, and coverage for financial default of a travel supplier, as a covered reason for Trip Cancellation or Interruption.

HURRICANE SEASON

If you’re traveling during hurricane season, you’ll want to purchase your travel insurance plan right away.

Travel Insurance Master Tip: Once a hurricane becomes a named event, you will no longer have coverage for that hurricane if you purchase coverage after that date. Remember, the hurricane must be unforeseen to be covered under a Hurricane and Weather Benefit, and once it’s been named it’s considered “foreseen.” When shopping for plans on TravelInsuranceMaster.com, simply click on each benefit to see what’s covered or click View Certificate for the full policy description.

MISSED THE EARLY PURCHASE WINDOW?

Travel insurance is still extremely important! Remember your plan is effective the day after purchase and Trip Cancellation will be effective immediately. If you experience the unexpected and you need to cancel your trip, you’ll be happy to have this added peace of mind. Get to know your travel insurance policy so you know exactly what’s covered!

Last minute? You can usually purchase a plan up to a day before your departure. At TravelInsuranceMaster.com we make it easy to find the best plan and value for you, whether you’re planning well in advance, or only a day out. Great advice! Purchasing travel insurance is so important. I have definitely done it last minute a few times but try to do it far in advance now!

This is a great guide to learn when it’s good to buy travel insurance. Especially since travel has been so precarious lately.
What great advice as Travel Insurance is so important, especially when travelling internationally.
Even though I have travel insurance through my work benefits (which I've had to use), I still purchase extra insurance at the same time as I book my trip. This is especially important now with many airlines cancelling flights, losing bags, etc. Great post.
